Ica is the birthplace of pisco. Within half an hour of downtown there are large estates like Tacama and craft wineries where grapes are still trodden in stone presses.
A good route mixes one big estate with one craft winery. Try a quebranta (pure), an italia (aromatic) and an acholado (blend).
March is the Vendimia harvest festival: grape stomping, parades and music. Book early, it's high season.
Don't drive after tasting: ask the front desk for a tour with transport.
